Cataract and Retinopathy are common eye complications causing blindness in patients with diabetes. Early detection of these eye related complications can prevent blindness. The department here screens all patients for retinopathy, cataract and other eye related diseases.

Podiatry

The department of Podiatry deals with foot related problems in patients with diabetes. Long standing diabetes leads to peripheral neuropathy and peripheral arterial disease leading to wounds and ulcers in the feet. So it is important to prevent these foot related complications. The department is equipped with bio-thesiometer, Vascular Doppler and foot scan to look for signs of peripheral neuropathy and blood supply in the feet.

The podiatrist then guides the patients to prevent further complications. The department also provides foot wear solutions for patients with diabetic foot.

Department of Nutrition

Nutrition and Diet form the core part in the treatment of Diabetes. Reversal of type 2 diabetes has been possible with dietary and lifestyle modification. Our dietician after detail assessment plans an individualized diet which makes control of blood glucose levels easier in both type1 and type2 diabetes.

Advanced Diabetic Foot Care Services

Take Care of your foot in Diabetes
Do’s
  • Check your feet daily (use a mirror to observe the sole of your feet) for blisters, bruises, scratches, cuts, wounds, discoloration, callus, coms, bleeding, fungal infection between the toes, difference in local temperature between the legs, pressure points beneath the feet etc.
  • Wash your feet daily (twice) with running tap water and soap and dry the feet thoroughly with a soft towel, especially between the toes.
  • Apply a thin coat of moisturizing cream on the legs and the feet as advised by your foot care expert, avoid applying between the toes.
  • Footwear should be bought in the form of sandals. Incase of shoes, select ones that have a wider toe box with extra depth and laces, socks should be breathable and should fit well and protect your feet
  • Visit a foot care specialist regularly and ensure that your feet are examined during each visit
  • Cut your nails straight across in a square manner and file the edges using a nail filer. Nail trimming should be done soon after taking a bath as the nails tend to be soft.
  • Wear special footwear made of soft insoles such as MCR/MCP/EVA etc. indoor and outdoor preferably with cotton socks.
  • People going to temple should use temple socks.
  • Inspect the inside of your shoes daily for foreign objects, nails, torn linings and rough areas.
  • It is better to consult a foot care specialist before purchasing new footwear.
Don’ts
  • Do not walk Barefeet.
  • Do not soak your feet in warm/hot or cold water or apply any hot fermentation / cold compression or electric heating pads to your feet and legs. This can be dangerous.

Consult your doctor immediately if there is:

  • A sudden red area on the feet with fever (can be mild), chills and/or pain in the feet.
  • An injury to the foot like twisting injury or ankle sprain.
  • If you have a wound.
