DR. JOSE FILIPE ALVARES completed his MD General Medicine from the prestigious Seth GS Medical College and KEM hospital, Mumbai and DM Gastroenterology and DNB Gastroenterology from TN Medical college and Nair hospital, Mumbai.
Following this, he has worked as lecturer and Assistant Professor of Gastroenterology at St John’s Medical College, Bangalore and then at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal as Associate Professor and acting head of Gastroenterology. He has been at Victor Hospital, Margao as consultant Gastroenterologist from February 2005. He is a specialist in therapeutic endoscopy with special interest in diseases of liver, pancreas, gallbladder, bile duct, Bowel diseases and GI Cancer.
PROFESSIONAL WORK EXPERTISE
The Department provides endoscopic treatment for obstructive jaundice due to bile duct stones and malignacies, pancreatitis, stenting for inoperable Gl cancers, screening for colonic and other GI malignancies, capsule endoscopy for unex plained anemias and obscure GI bleed, esophageal and anorectal manometry and ph metry, endoscopic treatment of variceal and non variceal bleeding as well as management of inflammatory bowel disease, GERD, peptic ulcer, various types of jaundice, cirrhosis, viral hepatitis and other liver diseases and gallbladder He is the first doctor to start ERCP as well as Advanced threapeutic endoscopic procedures in Goa.
